The single federal parts of Germany take their holidays at different times to prevent the worst traffic jam when all people take their trips at the same time. This year, North Rhine – Westphalia was the first to start and to end, on August, 8th.
Brilliant! Leave it to the Germans to do something practical like that. I guess the US is just too big and diverse to make that kind of system work. Speaking of traffic, there have been many news stories lately about the glut of tourists in Europe this summer and how a number of places – e.g. Rome, Amsterdam, Venice – are making new regulations to try to discourage tourists. I think we’re still feeling the effect of the pandemic – everyone wants to travel.
You’ve got a lot more space to move in your country. And the speed limit prohibits traffic jam, the German politics is unable to establish such a clever regulation which would also protect the climate. But the car industry is too influential.
The stories about European tourism don’t lie: people are crazy about that, not only one holiday travel a year, no, three, four times they take the plane to spoil the atmosphere.
Meanwhile, we dig our garden and get really relaxed 🙂
I think most of the stories I’m reading are about non-Europeans coming to the EU but I see your point. I do feel guilty about plane travel but so far, not guilty enough to stop. Cultivating your own garden, what could be a better thing to do? 🙂

Schulfenster sehen doch überall gleich aus. Man könnte sie gar nicht verwechseln dafür wirken sie in deinem Foto schöner als sie wahrscheinlich sind

Verstehe! Ja, sogar die Gymnasien, die noch in sehr alten Gemäuern hausen, bemühen sich um freundliche Ausstrahlung.

Drei Wochen Handwerkerferien ( alle Handwerker) war mir auch total neu. Fast etwas italienisch!
